Report: Suns Not Enamored With Spurs’ Offer For Kevin Durant

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Phoenix Suns are not enamored with the San Antonio Spurs’ trade offer for Kevin Durant

“Sources add that Phoenix is not enamored with the players San Antonio has made available in the teams’ talks to date. It is obviously presumed that Durant would relish the opportunity to play alongside Victor Wembanyama, but it is also believed that the Spurs are only willing to discuss veterans such as Devin VassellKeldon Johnson and Harrison Barnes. The Spurs just managed to acquire De’Aaron Fox from Sacramento largely on their terms and the notion now of surrendering newly named Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle or the No. 2 selection in this month’s draft is simply a non-starter,” Fischer wrote.

“Vassell, though, might be the highest-upside player available to the Suns. That said: It is also more than fair to wonder how high Vassell’s upside in Phoenix could be considering his positional overlap with both Booker and Bradley Beal.”

The Spurs missed the playoffs again this year, but they have the second overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, Wembanyama, Fox and Castle. Their future appears to be very bright.

The Suns are expected to trade Durant before the 2025 NBA Draft. Durant, 36, has one year left on his contract.

One of the best scorers in NBA history, Durant has been linked to the Spurs, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat in trade rumors.

Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He won two championships and two Finals MVPs with the Warriors back in 2017 and 2018.

“The Suns, sources say, are hoping to acquire a measure of quality draft capital as part of the return for Durant, sources say, and thus have been conducting due diligence on various levels of first-round prospects in the belief they will obtain at least one meaningful selection in the draft taking place 11 days from now. At present Phoenix only holds the 29th and 52nd picks,” Fischer wrote.

“Things are obviously fluid at this stage, but the two teams most frequently cited as potential landing spots for Durant entering Saturday’s business, league sources say, were Minnesota and Miami.”
