Report: Pistons Interested In Naz Reid, Myles Turner

According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Detroit Pistons are interested in Naz Reid and Myles Turner

Reid has a player option worth $15,022,464 for next season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, while Turner will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Turner and the Indiana Pacers are in the NBA Finals after beating the New York Knicks in the conference finals.

“The Pistons are among the teams with interest in Timberwolves big man Naz Reid, league sources say,” Stein wrote. “Detroit is known to covet a floor-spacing big man and, according to sources, is likewise said to hold interest in Indiana’s Myles Turner. Whether the Pistons have a tangible shot at acquiring either player, mind you, is far from clear.”

The Pistons made the playoffs this year for the first time since 2019. They lost to the Knicks in the first round in six games.

Reid averaged 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Timberwolves this season, while Turner put up 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game for the Pacers.

“Reid has a $15 million player option for next season that he must exercise or decline by June 29,” Stein wrote. “The Timberwolves have made it known they have strong interest in retaining Reid and there’s another notable obstacle for the Pistons here: Even if Reid makes it to the open market, Detroit won’t have substantial salary cap room to try to outright sign him away from the Wolves if it is also hoping to re-sign sharpshooter Malik Beasley and/or veteran guard Dennis Schröder. (Tim Hardaway Jr. is another Pistons free agent-to-be.)

“Turner, meanwhile, is widely expected to re-sign with the only team he has ever known after his contributions to Indiana’s second successive trip to the Eastern Conference finals in his 10th season as a Pacer.”

Reid has career averages of 11.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He turns 26 in August.

Meanwhile, Turner has career averages of 14.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.2 blocks. He turns 30 next season.
