Report: Celtics’ Jaylen Brown May Need Knee Surgery This Summer

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown may need right knee surgery this summer.

Brown finished the season with a partially torn right meniscus.

“Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown finished the season with a partially torn right meniscus, sources told ESPN,” Shelburne wrote. “Brown had been playing in pain during the last month of the regular season and the playoffs, which concluded with Friday’s Game 6 loss to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. He will be evaluated this week to determine if surgery is needed, sources said.”

Here’s what Brown said about his physical issues after the Celtics lost Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals to the New York Knicks on Friday.

“I don’t make excuses,” Brown said. “Obviously, it’s tough the way we went out like tonight, but the way we finished the year, personally, the way I finished the year, persevering through some physical stuff that I was battling through, I’m proud of our group.”

Jayson Tatum could miss all of next season recovering from his Achilles tear. The Celtics have to hope that Brown’s injury isn’t serious.

Brown averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Celtics in the regular season. The 2024 Finals MVP put up 22.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in the 2025 postseason.

The 28-year-old Brown will make $53,142,264 next season.
